Types of Sod

Rough and white action - ornamental shrub

Decorative shrub of derain has about 30 species and varieties, which differ significantly in size and color of leaves. Despite the differences in the plant, all species are popularly called "derain - red shrub." The fact is that almost all varieties of variegated decorative bush have stalks of saturated red color.

Shrub appearance may vary.

White derain of Siberia (Cornus alba sibirica)

The main difference of the bush is its unusual appearance in the winter: the bush has bright red stems. Against the background of snow in bright sunshine, the shrub creates an unusual effect. However, the bush is still valued for its beautiful view on the summer garden. Pale green leaves have a blurry white border.

Derain white Elegantissima (Elegantissima)

Elegantissima is famous for its variegated foliage of rich green and white. The foliage is very dense, so bright red shoots do not quite distinguish behind it.

Additional Information. Because of its coloring from afar, Elegantissima seems completely covered in small creamy colors.

Variegated derain white Siberian Variegata (Sibirica Variegata)

The description of the white turf of Sibirik Variegat resembles that of Elegantissim. The bush has foliage green and pale cream color. With the advent of autumn, bright motley foliage acquires dark red, lilac and orange shades. The branches have a bright red tint. Planting and caring for the bush of variegated white turf must be done correctly, otherwise the plant may lose its beautiful color.

Derain White Shpeta (Cornus alba Spaethii)

In the first years after planting, the plant is actively in growth, grows to a maximum of 1.5 meters in height. The unbranched shoots of Shpet have an erect appearance. The bush has red stems with a faint yellow border around the edges, which changes to pink by autumn.

Decorative properties of turf in landscape design

In landscape design, this type of turf is very popular. From its crown, various shapes and figures can be formed. Often, designers create compositions of turf and other ornamental deciduous shrubs. The shrub looks harmonious with juniper, barberry and with pink and white flowers.

Features of turf care in the garden

Derain does not require special care. Even a novice amateur gardener can cope with planting and caring for a bush of derain.

Temperature

Forsythia shrub or yellow fortification - description

The shrub grows well at a temperature of about 20 ° C, therefore it is suitable for growth even in northern latitudes. High temperature can easily be tolerated if the bush is watered on time. Derain is a frost-resistant plant that can tolerate cold winds and a small layer of snow.

Lighting

The plant is not picky about lighting. For abundant flowering, it is better to choose non-shaded areas with moderate lighting.

Watering

Young bushes must be watered every 3-4 days. Adult bushes are unpretentious to the amount of watering and require moisture only in heat and drought, or when the topsoil dries up. In the fall, watering is usually suspended.

Spraying

Spraying is carried out rarely and only to add more humidity to the air. Also, spraying helps get rid of the accumulated dirt and dust on the sheet plates.

Humidity

Derain is not whimsical to indicators of humidity of air. But severe drought can affect the appearance of the bush - its leaves will begin to turn yellow at the edges. It is sometimes best to spray the bush with water in the heat.

Priming

Derain is able to grow on any type of soil, however, it is better to choose areas with sandy soil. The growing area should be well lit by the sun. From a lack or excess of acidity in the soil, derain does not particularly suffer.

Top dressing

Derain is fed twice a season. The first feeding is carried out in the spring, before flowering. They make complex mineral preparations for ornamental deciduous plants.

Important! Nitrogen can be introduced only at the first feeding and only before flowering.

The second feeding is carried out in late August or early September. During this period, organic fertilizers are already being introduced in the form of chicken droppings, humus or rotted leaves.

Pruning and sod formation

The shrub does not have to be cut, but most gardeners prefer using this procedure to form the necessary crown. This is a fairly painstaking and time-consuming process. Pruning must be carried out in the spring or at the very end of summer. Be sure to remove dried branches, then cut off unnecessary shoots.

It is advisable to trim the decorative bush to form a crown

How is derain propagated?

The plant at home is propagated by cuttings, less likely to carry out seed germination.

Seed germination

Propagation of derain by seeds is a rather difficult and long process. First you need to sprout the seeds at home in a small box like seedlings. Having landed in the ground, wait about 7 years until the derain grows to its normal size.

Important! Despite the time-consuming process, turf seeds are 100% germinating.

Rooting cuttings

In spring, cuttings with 8 buds are cut from the main bush. The scraps are planted in a turf substrate. Cuttings need to be regularly watered and top-dressed. As soon as the cuttings take root, they are planted in open ground. The cuttings must be taken care of.

Sod transplant

A sod transplant with healthy growth and proper care is not required and depends only on personal preferences and emergency. It is recommended to transplant the bush in the spring, before the swelling of the kidneys begins. The bush is dug together with the earth at the roots and transplanted into a pit pre-dug for transplantation. Before planting, it is better to introduce humus or rotted foliage into the pit. After planting, the derain is abundantly watered with slightly cool rain water.

Important! They scoop up the bush carefully so as not to damage the root system.

Possible problems in growing turf

A shrub may appear fungus. The leaves will begin to turn brown and black, then fall off. Sometimes local brown spots may appear on the stems of the bush. If you do not pay attention to them, the branch will completely dry up and die. This problem occurs due to heavy watering or watering with cold water. Irrigation water should be slightly cool and not hard. The fungus can be cured by treating derain with a solution of Bordeaux fluid or special preparations, for example, Vectra or Fundazol.

Increased humidity and excessive shading of the area provoke the appearance of powdery mildew. It looks like powdery plaque on leaf blades. Soon the leaves turn yellow, curl and fall off at the end. They get rid of it with special drugs.

If the leaves dry up sharply and turn yellow to the very central vein, then the bush received a burn from the sun. A transplant is needed to a more favorable and shaded place.

Note! Derain has a specific smell that repels pests.

With its unusual variegated coloring of leaves, derain has gained immense popularity in landscape design. Simple care, along with a beautiful appearance, attracts more and more attention of turf to its person around the world.
